Consumer Help Unit Welcome to the Consumer Help Unit. This section of the Web site is designed to help you learn about important issues, answer questions and to help you file complaints directly with the Banking Department. Inquiries and complaints can be general in nature or relate to a specific topic such as mortgages or ATM safety. The more you know about managing your money, the more secure your future can be. Whether the subject is basic bank accounts or the latest scam, you can count on the Banking Department to provide you with accurate and up-to-date information The Department’s expanded and enhanced education and outreach programs can give assistance to New Yorkers who want to make the most of their resources while navigating the increasingly complex financial world. Through its outreach efforts, the Department can provide financial education to consumers on personal finance and credit to help them learn how to achieve their dreams.The Department can also provide experts to address community organizations, schools, not-for-profits and the business community on a variety of topics. Because New Yorkers should always have a place to turn when in need, the dedicated, multilingual staff on the Department’s 877-BANK NYS Helpline can provide assistance, advice and referrals.
